We have had many reports about unqualified individuals carrying out treatments and surgeries for animals illegally in Sri Lanka. This practice has caused many complications and deaths in animals. It is also reported that some are trying to legalize this practice.
We handed over a letter regarding this issue to the Registrar of the Sri Lanka Veterinary Council, Dr. Kandargama.

Responsible officers in veterinary field should take the action against illegal veterinary practice immediatly, because those poeple damaging more to the veterinary proffesion as well as they are killing innocent animal more.
This is the most valuable topic I would say.. I believe the main reason for inability to establish Standard Veterinary Service in Sri Lanka is, Illegal Veterinary Practice by unauthorized pretended-vets & Illegal Dispensing of Pharmaceuticals by chemists and Farm Shops. Some technical people bound to DAPH in Sri Lanka do malpractices in field. Even they don’t have knowledge in very basics, they treat the animals & prescribed the medicines. Authorized personals for that, they don’t take any legal action against it.
I suggest, in order to keep our professional standards and reputation we should force the authority to abolish such malpractices by using Acts and amend the Acts accordingly.
Its really important.
Once i complained to the veterinary council about one person doing illegal veterinary practice in lewella, kandy. He was retired labourer in animal production and health department. But even i didn’t get reply from your authorities. I don’t think they will do some thing even for this matter.
Vets need to protect vet profession. Don’t forget its your responsibility to made safe future for juniors.
Its really important to address this matter immedietly. Day by day its going to worse.
