“Mass reduction in using post exposure vaccines for humans has saved 25% from the annual budget in 2010. Proper planning and implementation of the rabies eradication programme in sabaragamuwa province is the main reason for this massive saving.” Provincial Health Minister Bhanu Munipriya said at the media conference which was held at the provincial council office yesterday.
“91,267 dogs have been sterilized from 2008 and 111,000 vaccines have been given to dogs in 2009 in the sabaragamuwa province.” Dr. Kapila Kannangara said. He also mentioned that without a proper awareness programme getting the best results would be delayed.
Speaking at the event, the Minister also said he’ll be paying close attention to making laws for responsible pet ownership and proper waste management.
J. A. Ranjith, Provincial Health Secretary and Dr. Chamith Nanayakkara were also present.
