i would like to appriciate this effort which enhance the efficiency of sterilization programme.. v should have arrange more and more scientific sesssions in future.
More and more discussions need to guide this program. Because this is first ground level mass program in the world. Why can’t you invite few of other vets those who are doing this project in few districts.
[...] a long discussion carried out at the Second Scientific Session, all of our members agreed to donate 5% from their monthly salary to Animal Welfare work which is [...]
@ malanee, except four or five vets, all of the others joint with us for eradicate this killing disease and save money to the country. Near future we will have meeting with veterinary council to make proper guide line. Then every body should follow that. Thank you for your comments.
Discussions always help to better results. Why aren’t you write to the english news papers about your achievements. One lady always try to sabotage your program in media.

@sammani: Although a few people who took advantage from rabies in Sri Lanka don’t want to eradicate it from the country, more than 99% wants to put a stop to this problem. False rumors can’t stop what we are doing.
The responsibility of media is to tell the truth to the public. But they haven’t given us an opportunity to expose the reality behind this.
Controlling the stray dog population is the practical approach to get rid of rabies. Mass sterilization programs therefore, have shown some hopes in eradicating this fatal disease This national dog sterilization program has been implemented to obtain results within 5 years. They basically planned to sterilize 1 million dogs with in this 5 years. Now it’s carried out only two years of starting the sterilization as mass program and it is long term project we can’t expect 100% results at once, in 2008, 100,000 dogs and 2009, 250,000 dogs were sterilized and it also increased dog vaccination.
As we know it reduced the number of dog bites according to the data of human ARV and ARS used, Year 2010 is noted that the Medical supplies division of the Ministry of Health has incurred a sum of Rs. 413,166,297 on vaccines for humans bitten by dogs in the year 2008, whilst it is estimated that vaccines to the sum of Rs. 158,143,032 will be required for the year 2010. As such there has been a reduction of a sum of Rs. 214,854,761 during the period under review. It is therefore evident and the undeniable truth that this large sum of money has been saved for our country directly due to the National Dog Sterilization programme.
According to the (ANNUAL HEALTH STATISTICS – 2006,Page 68), From 2003 to 2007 there were no proper dog population control methods implemented(dog killing method) we can imagine it was the reason for the increased human deaths (Av 75 people death). But in 2008 & 2009, 350,000 dogs were sterilized and also dog vaccination was increased. Again human deaths decreased to around fifty, In 2008, 51 people died after being bitten by rabid dogs.in 2009 – 55. This year around 25 deaths from rabid dog bite have been reported so far. If we continue this spaying program systematically without any doubt within couple of years we can control dog population in Sri Lanka.
Your program should be publish in mass media. Almost all deaths due to rabies were poor, innocent people. They need this program. If any threats from few opportunistic persons to stop this program, those needful people will give them answers.
It was really important to scientifically analize and compare the anesthetic combinations what we using in the field. Thank you madom for your discussion to improve our knowledge.
